The Winchester group staged an event to launch a new website, 'Where To...' The idea of the site was to give young people in Winchester a single website where they could find out about activities and services specifically for young people. The event featured an information fair in the performance hall where young people could talk to local services such as Youth of Winchester, Creative Hub and Winnal Rock school and also had the opportunity to view the website www.wheretowinchester.co.uk
The content was worked on by project members however the actual design and putting it all together was done by one single volunteer, Andi North. The event was marketed using several techniques including flyers, posters, social networking sites, mail outs and word of mouth to promote the event but numbers were still fairly low considering the effort. About 20 young people accessed the information fair although audiences in the cafe were slightly better. The group will hopefully see this as a learning outcome and understand that promotion needs to be one of the first activities when planning an event. We also created a handy business card which has the website url on it together with the EDGE logo which was given out to the young people so hopefully this will encourage visits to the site.
We also had several young singer / songwriters perform in the cafe area as a means of encouraging others to access the event. It was really impressive and nice to see young musicians performing their own material and such a strong song writing culture in the city.
