Basingstoke | Past Events

Response Exhibition, 5th April - 8th May 2011, Milestones Museum

The exhibition displays artwork and documents projects completed as part of this project in Basingstoke. Different groups of young people from all over Basingstoke visited Milestones and The Willis Museum to come up with ideas for their own creative responses. The exhibition includes sculpture, textiles, paintings and photography. Other groups have also produced a film and dance using themes from the museum.

Photography Exhibition, Milestones Museum

This exhibition displays work by students from Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College and Brighton Hill Community College. The group have taken photography around Basingstoke as part of their foundation learning course.

EDGE Together : The Present, December 2011
Young people from Basingstoke took part in a Hampshire-wide EDGE Project, working with other young peopel form Andover, Winchester and Alton. The group took part in workshops based in Basingstoke to help create a new play, entitled the Present. The group researched their family history, and the information they found out all contributed to the final production, which took place at the Alton Assembly Rooms in December 2011.

This project was so successful, it is being repeated in December 2012 at the Winchester Discovery Centre. For more info, check out the upcoming events page!

Groups involved in the project included Basingstoke Young Carers, students from Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, students at Costello Communoity College, Junction 6 Youth Project, The Jam Youth Project in Buckskin and Basingstoke Academy of Dance.

'Views from the EDGE' Exhibition
This exhibition of artwork by young people from all over Basingstoke was on display from 11th September until 9th October 2010 at the Willis Museum. For images of the exhibition, have a look in the gallery section of the website.

This was a joint project with Vinvolved North Hampshire, and also included artwork produced by The Jam Youth group from Buckskin in Basingstoke, and Basingstoke Young Carers.

The exhibition was organised by the Impact Youth Panel, and received lots of positive comments from visitors.

Graffiti Art Workshops
Over the summer the EDGE Project ran four FREE graffiti workshops with Vinvolved North Hampshire. These were open to anyone aged 14 to 19, and participants learnt how to use spray cans and pens. They also learnt how to use various lettering styles and painting techniques, before putting together pieces of artwork on boards.

Participants learnt about graffiti as a legal art form, and the final work went on display at the Willis Museum as part of the 'Views from the EDGE' exhibition.

Basing House
Members of the Impact Youth Panel took photogrpahs to document the re-opening of Basing House following a refurbishment by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The group also filmed the re-enactments of the siege of Basing House, by The Sealed Knot.

Basingstoke 2010
The Impact Youth panel and other young people from Basingstoke created their own film with Cass Productions. The group were able to use professional camera equipment to produce Basingstoke 2010, a film about Basingstoke today. The group interviewed local people and researched the town's history, and the final film was premiered at the Willis Museum in January 2010.
